Simon Cowell Trashes Host Demi Lovato
The judges of The X Factor videoed in greetings to fellow panelist Demi Lovato at the start of the show. LA Reid and Britney Spears both wished her the best, but Simon Cowell — as his ever gracious self — called her irritating, annoying, and an overall brat. It was all in good fun, of course. Demi was quick to fire back at her new boss by assessing that Simon doesn't know how to deal with women from this century. Looks like these two will be providing the entertaining banter this fall.
Mini Nicki Minaj Impersonators' Acceptance Speech
When Ellen Degeneres took the stage to accept her Choice Comedian award, she brought up British web sensations Sophia Grace and Rosie with her as her "hype girls." The young cousins went viral with their hilarious performance of Nicki Minaj's song, "Super Bass." What they didn't know was that they were also receiving pint-size surfboards for winning Choice Web Stars. Sophia Grace screamed at the top of her lungs and wiggled her loose tooth for the world to see, while Rosie maintained her usual unfazed composure. Adorable.
During one of the many unnecessary conversation bits between hosts Demi Lovato and Kevin McHale, the pair discussed their various tattoos. First off, aside from a simple cross on Demi's hand, both of their various tats are written words, so they are pretty boring. Demi's ink displays encouraging reminders such as "faith" and "stay strong." Big Beatles fan Kevin sports odes to "Let It Be" and "Imagine." After comparing their respective permanent body text, they sternly warned the audience that tattoos are extremely painful and no one should ever get one. Okay, thanks, Mom and Dad.
Selena Gomez's Awkward Birthday Shout-Out
Accepting the award for Choice Music Group for her band, Selena Gomez gushed that it was the best birthday present ever before a tray of cupcakes was rolled onto the stage and the auditorium burst into a rendition of "Happy Birthday." As if turning beet-red on national TV wasn't embarrassing enough, Selena then proceeded to blow out the candles, which were actually sparklers. In the end, she awkwardly tried to wheel off the baked goods.
Apparently, Justin Kirk is as quirky in real life as his Weeds character, Andy. The Animal Practice actor opted for an unusual date: his co-star, Crystal the monkey. Needless to say, Crystal's appearance as a presenter was one of the evening's highlights, especially after she smacked Kirk in the head. Oh, monkeys, how you make us laugh!
Kevin McHale Boy Band Reveal
Last but not least, we were delighted, horrified, confused, and fascinated all at the same time by footage of Kevin McHale performing with boy band NLT (Not Like Them) back in the day. Yes, the boy can sing... but that boy-band swag? Not very convincing.
