Thinking about hitting the movies this weekend? Great idea! Here's the scoop on three flicks opening Friday, October 21.
If you love a good Cinderella story and women's basketball, then you might be into The Mighty Macs. This film — inspired by a true story — follows the unlikely rise of the 1971-72 Immaculata College women's team, who went from nobodies to history-making legends. Even better, sexy Bones star David Boreanaz stands out among all the nuns.
Sexy: Women who play sports
Not sexy: Women's 1970's Catholic-school basketball uniforms
Verdict: Unless you're a huge Boreanaz fan, you may want to save this heart-warmer for cable. According to early reviews, it's far from a slam-dunk.
Margin Call, on the other hand, starring Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, and Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley (yum!), is a big hit with the critics so far. This "thinker's" thriller documents an intense 24-hour period during the initial stages of the 2008 financial crisis.
Sexy: Guys in suits
Not sexy: Greed and money
Verdict: Super timely, this is a great choice for an intellectual date night — follow it up with discussion at your local coffeehouse!
Lastly, it wouldn't be October without a new scary flick opening. This weekend's pick is Paranormal Activity 3. The creepy franchise is staying mum on the third installment's details, but one thing's for sure: the bejeebers will be scared out of ya.
Sexy: Um, have you seen either of the first two movies? Nothing sexy here.
Not sexy: See above.
Verdict: Experiencing all the jumping and shrieking in a crowded theater is half the fun, so grab your pals and get ready to freak the heck out!
