People have been joking about a Dwight-centric Office spin-off ever since the socially inept, but oddly-lovable, salesman (played by Rainn Wilson) broke on to the TV scene during Season 1 of the hit NBC comedy. Now, the jokes could become reality.

According to Deadline Hollywood, NBC is developing a potential Dwight spin-off. The show is envisioned as a "family comedy," taking Dwight out from behind the desk and throwing him back onto his family farm/bed and breakfast.

The show would "include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors," a source told Deadline Hollywood. "At its base it will be about a family farm struggling to survive and a family trying to stay together."

Nothing has been finalized, and there's still plenty of time for this production to be killed before it ever makes it to your TV. However, if the show does move forward, it's currently being considered for a 2013 midseason start date. (Those of you who can't get enough of Dwight's antics on The Office will be happy to hear he would continue to appear on The Office's ninth season — if it gets one — until that midseason mark.)

It's easy to see how this spin-off could fit into NBC's quirky, sardonic but essentially warm comedy brand. The real question is, would you watch it? Dwight often brings the laughs as part of The Office's ensemble cast, but his over the top machinations and absurd socially failings could get very old, very fast on his own show.

What do you think?
