What is The Walking Dead without The Ricktator Rick Grimes?
We just kinda assumed, even amid the "No One Is Safe" mantra, that Rick would be alive — if not completely unharmed — for the duration of the series. He's the star of the show. He has two (or at least one) kids. He's Daryl Dixon's #1 bromance buddy. The zombie apocalypse may have damaged his psyche, but it's made him scruffily attractive. Rick stays. Or not?
Comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman had a little Q&A with fans on AMCTV.com, and someone asked if the group could survive if something happens to Rick.
Kirkman responded, "Yes, absolutely. We've been saying that no one is safe on this show, and I wouldn't rule out seeing the death of Rick Grimes at almost any point. We really like to keep people guessing, and I could definitely see some interesting stories coming from that. While Rick has been a pretty solid leader, he's definitely made his share of mistakes. I think seeing Daryl or Maggie or Glenn picking up a larger leadership role in the group could pose some interesting story possibilities."
The group already saw something happen to Rick when he lost his marbles. Glenn may want to be a leader, but is he still too headstrong? Maggie and Daryl probably don't want to lead, but they could step up if they had to. What about Hershel?
Do you think anything will really happen to Rick, or is that just talk? We were prepped for two dozen deaths on the Season 3 finale and it was mostly people we don't know well, plus Andrea who had been abused by the writers all season. Would they do that to Rick, on Season 4 or beyond? Would Carl kill him? You move too slowly with Carl, he'll shoot first and blame you second.
