Don Payne — a longtime writer and producer for The Simpsons, and writer of Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer — died March 26 of undisclosed causes.

According to Deadline, he had been battling cancer. It's unclear how old he was when he passed, but the Wilmington, N.C., Star News said he graduated from Wilmington's New Hanover High School in 1982. He won four Emmy Awards and six Writer's Guild Award nominations.

Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said in a statement (via Star News): "Don was a wonderful writer and an even more wonderful man. He was beloved in the Simpsons community and his untimely passing is terrible news to us all."
