Well, it qualifies as “art,” which basically means it’s OK that it’s a little wacky, if not downright bizarre!
Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton’s latest project has nothing to do with film, but it does have to do with eccentricty, which Tilly is known for. The sleek, pale star is putting her bedroom habits on display, shacking up in a glass box at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC for a series of eight-hour naps.
The display, called “The Maybe,” will be showcased on random days throughout the rest of the month. The glass box is equipped with a mattress, linens, and a jug of water. No one, not even the museum staff, has the inside scoop on when Tilda will pop over for a nap on display. MoMa is tight-lipped on the matter, offering some vague instruction for prospective viewers: "Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real — shared — time: now we see it, now we don't."
This isn’t the first time the famously odd Moonrise Kingdom star has flexed her performance art muscles. She conceived this very installation nearly 20 years ago and performed it in London and Rome back in the '90s.
It sounds kinda neat (but also a lot creepy) to snooze in a glass box. Would you do it?
