Reports surfaced yesterday that Lindsay Lohan's Porsche was totaled in a nasty car crash while Linds was driving in Los Angeles — although the actress reportedly sustained no injuries and her assistant, riding in the car with her, suffered only mild bruising and "some bleeding." Now, the other driver in the crash — a truck driver identified only as James — is speaking out to TMZ about the incident, alleging that Lindsay initially attempted to flee the scene, leaving her people there to offer him a bribe in exchange for his silence. Uh-oh.
In a video interview, James says that Lindsay was being trailed by a Cadillac Escalade truck (possibly connected to the production of her Lifetime movie, Liz & Dick) while driving on the PCH yesterday; after the crash, he reports, Lindsay was immediately moved into that Escalade from her totaled Porsche and appeared to be about to leave before they could exchange information. He claims that the driver of the Escalade offered him money, saying they could go to the ATM and withdraw some cash, and they also asked for his silence about a mysterious pink bag that her assistant moved from the Porsche into the Escalade, stressing that he not say anything about the bag to the police, who were en route to the scene. James also said that these claims would be corroborated by his 911 call, since he was on the phone with the police for the duration of that exchange.
But according to Lindsay's rep, Steve Honig, "Lindsay is cooperating fully with law enforcement. She has answered all their questions and provided them with everything they have asked for."
Either way, it's the latest in a seemingly endless string of legal and professional setbacks for Linds, who seemed to be on her way back up. Here's hoping this incident doesn't derail her progress.
