Jennifer Aniston drew a lot of attention for her fun, summery look at the Call Me Crazy premiere last night -- and her bare back, which showed some unusual marks. TooFab and others recognized the makeup-covered splotches as a telltale sign of cupping therapy.
What's cupping? It's a form of alternative medicine slightly related to acupuncture that involves setting cups on skin to make a suction -- sometimes by pumping the cup, and sometimes by burning the cup before applying it. WebMD says that supporters believe this mobilizes blood flow. David Arquette is apparently a fan; he even posted a picture to Twitter of his cup-filled back.
Ready to start speculating? Here is just a sample of reasons why someone might go get cupped:
- Fertility problems
- Respitory trouble
WebMD has even more reasons why someone would seek cupping therapy.
Studies have shown that cupping helps certain conditions... sometimes.
Why do you think Jen would get cupping therapy? Is this just general well-being or, as fans are gleefully speculating, is she trying to increase her fertility? (To be fair, as Crushable points out, it's only "slightly more scandalous than congestion.")
