Long-running medical drama House came to a close last night after eight seasons of snark and the weirdest of the weird medical mysteries. The finale took us on a trip down memory lane, with most of the departed cast returning in one way or another. However, there was one notable absence: Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein).
From no-nonsense boss to love interest, Cuddy has long been one of the few people who could get close to House. She was, at times, arguably the most important person in his life besides his BFF/platonic life partner, Wilson. So why the no-show?
Sadly, this is one of those cases where real-life issues got in the way of ideal storytelling. Lisa left the show after Season 7 after failing to re-up her contract — she was asked to take a paycut, and many theorize that that is why she said sayonara to the show.
Although series creator David Shore expressed his interest in bringing Cuddy back for the finale, that obviously did not work out. Lisa didn't seem excited about the idea when TVLine asked her about it last August, and the rumor mill has concluded that she may not have parted with the show on the best terms.
