Warning: Spoilers ahead! If you haven’t seen The Dark Knight Rises, proceed with caution.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been a show-stealer since his days on 3rd Rock from the Sun, building a steady career over the past 16 years.

But even starring roles in recent hit films like (500) Days of Summer and Inception are nothing in comparison to taking over the Batman franchise, a rumor that has been circulating the Internet since the film premiered.

In the final minutes of TDKR, we discover that Joe’s character is not only named Robin, but was just given exclusive access to the Batcave. Unfortunately, this was the final film in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, meaning that this intel wasn’t necessarily a lead-in to a JGL-fronted film.

However, we shouldn’t rule that option out quite yet.

While Joseph told The Hollywood Reporter that he had “no idea” what the status of the franchise was, he also wouldn’t confirm or deny his plans either way.

“I always choose scripts the same way,” he said. “If it’s a great script and a great filmmaker, then I’m interested.”

The potential for a John Blake-centric (Robin’s full name) film is exciting, but Joe also noted that it isn’t absolutely necessary.

“I don’t think [the ending of The Dark Knight Rises] is necessarily a set-up. I think it is the great ending for that trilogy,” he told Jimmy Kimmel. “Even if you go back to Batman Begins, he’s talking about how Batman is more than a man, it’s a symbol, and a hero can be anybody and we all have heroes inside of us."

Well, we can’t deny that the man has done his research. We’d love to see JGL star in a Robin-focused sequel, but then again, we’d also love to see him marry best friend Zooey Deschanel. Tell us what you think below!
