Mad Men's Roger (John Slattery) and Joan (Christina Hendricks) have a secret baby together — and they are finally both single at the same time — but that doesn't necessarily mean they will get together together, beyond their recurring hookups.

"They understand each other, as seen in a bunch of different scenes, but I don't think that means that they can live together — or want to," Slattery told Zap2it. "I mean, who knows, there's a million reasons why you're not actually with the person you're meant to be with."

Hmm. Zap2it also delved into Roger doing nothing about "Red" basically selling herself for a client on Season 5. "People were surprised that Roger didn't intervene," Slatter said. "I think Joan's probably done the same for less before, you know?" Dang, Roger! "There was a flashback, I forget what season, with Roger and Joan where she — you know, it's an affair but — where he gives her a fur. This was just a moral transaction that everybody was aware of and then seemed that much worse."

Huh. Slattery continued, "They've never really been overtly together anyway, so I think that for Roger it was like, what am I going to tell her not to do it? On what grounds? This is something that could set her up for the rest of her life, and again it's probably something that — if those two are straight with each other, which they are most of the time -- you would say you've probably done this for something [less valuable], so I see why you would entertain the idea."

But Joan had feelings for Roger. It was her choice to be with Roger on her own terms, not put up for sale the way she was by the men in the office. And the guy she had to sleep with was so creepy and never cared about anything but her body. At least Roger and Joan have come to care about each other as people, not just as a beautiful woman and a rich man. But maybe it's too much to ask for Roger to instantly transform into Prince Charming to swoop in and tell Joan he loves her and will save her from having to sell herself. This isn't Pretty Woman.

What do you think? Should Roger and Joan end up together? Do you think Joan has "done the same for less," in terms of her Season 5 partnership deal?
