From day one, Mindy Kaling’s Fox sitcom The Mindy Project has relied heavily — and in a very wink-wink sort of way — on classic romantic comedy tropes.
With their opposites-attract relationship (she’s neurotic and quirky, he’s cantankerous and kinda clueless), Mindy Lahiri (Mindy K.) and Danny Castellano (Chris Messina) seem destined for coupledom — like any great rom-com twosome. But will the show go there, or will it continue to dance playfully around that foregone conclusion?
We caught up with star and creator Mindy Kaling at the 2013 Writers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 17, and she teased some upcoming sexiness for her and Chris’s characters.
“I think there’s going to be some fun stuff for me and Chris Messina towards the end of this season,” she revealed. “ He’s such a handsome, sexy guy. It’s fun to think up sexy situations for us. But even I don’t know yet!”
When asked if fake Mindy’s escapades are based on real Mindy’s life, Mindy K. quipped, “I’m a comedy writer here, so I haven’t had the sexy experiences my character has had.”
Maybe not, but we’ve bet she’s watched and rewatched just as many romantic comedies.
