Congratulations are in order for The Office star Mindy Kaling! No, the accomplished funny lady is not getting her own Office spin-off, as has been rumored for Rainn Wilson. She's landed a comedy — written by and starring her — on FOX!
The half-hour show is called The Mindy Project, and according to Universal TV (who is producing the show), it's about a "young Bridget Jones-type doctor trying to navigate both her personal and professional lives." And by doctor, they mean gynecologist. Sounds ripe for hilarity, right?
Mindy will have a couple more familiar Office faces working on the comedy with her: BJ Novak (Ryan Howard) will serve as he executive co-producer, and according to Entertainment Weekly, Ed Helms (Andy Bernard) will appear as a "potential love interest" for Mindy's character, Kia. Other big guest stars include Bill Hader (SNL) as an “upbeat, humble, almost infinitely appealing boy-next-door type" and Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as a "a menschy but accomplished OBGYN.” Our assessment of the show so far? We can't wait to see it!
Does this good news mean the best-selling author/Emmy award-winning writer/blogger/actress will be leaving The Office? Multiple sources are claiming she'll be out before Season 9!
