Would you enjoy waking up to the sound and visage of Ryan Seacrest every morning?

That’s the question executives at NBCUniversal are reportedly asking, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. Sources say that Ryan met with the higher-ups at NBC, including the News President, Jim Bell.

According to WSJ, “NBCUniversal is pursuing American Idol host Ryan Seacrest as a possible successor to Matt Lauer on the Today show, if Mr. Lauer vacates his co-anchor seat next year, said people close to the company.”

The fact that both Ryan and Matt have contracts ending in 2012 (Ryan’s is up early next year, while Matt’s is up in “late” 2012) serves to fortify the rumor. As WSJ reports, “Mr. Seacrest is one of NBC's top replacement choices.”

The logistics of securing Ryan as a daily morning show anchor seem flawed — he might have to give up his American Idol duties, considering the commute between NY and LA is not exactly a daily option.

What do you think? Would Ryan be making a smart career move by taking over Matt’s nearly 15-year run on Today? Or is he needed on Idol? We personally like our early morning anchors how we like our coffee: strong, peppy, and eye-widening. So Ryan can have the job, as far as we’re concerned!
