A beloved Woodstock performer has sadly passed away.
Richie Havens, who was the first person to sing at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, died on April 22 of a heart attack at age 72, according to People.
Richie was a folk singer and guitarist who was born in Brooklyn. He had been living in Jersey City.
He was known for popular cover versions of songs. His version of The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" hit number 16 on the charts in 1971.
"Richie played the most legendary music festivals that ever were, and most of the world’s greatest concert venues," a statement on his website read.
"But even when performing in a Greenwich Village coffeehouse or a small club or regional theater, he was eternally grateful that people in any number turned up each time to hear him sing," the statement continues.
A public memorial will be held on a date that has yet to be chosen.
We'll miss you, Richie!
