Who Did Beyonce Tell to Bow Down?
With the March 2013 release of her single “Bow Down,” Beyonce is telling pretty much anyone who presses “play” to kowtow to her greatness.
Sample lyrics: “I know when you were little girls you dreamt of being in my world. Don’t forget it, don’t forget it. Respect that, bow down, bitches. I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife. Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted. This my shit, bow down, bitches.”
Not everyone is a fan of Queen Bey’s new song. On March 19, Keyshia Cole tweeted, “First ‘Women need to Stick together’ now bitches better Bow. Smh. But it's all G! Chicks stay shooting the shit. But when I speak my mind its a prob. #Well #StayMad.”
To Keyshia’s point, Beyonce toed a very different line in a British Vogue interview in early April, telling the mag, “I guess I am a modern-day feminist. [...] I’m just a woman and I love being a woman. I do believe in equality and that we have a way to go, and it’s something that’s pushed aside and something that we have been conditioned to accept.”
