Did Channing Tatum Date Amanda Bynes?
Channing Tatum played Amanda Bynes’s hunky love interest in the 2006 rom-com She’s the Man, a riff on Twelfth Night in which Amanda’s character dresses up as a boy to fool people into thinking she’s her twin brother.
During filming, Channing was already hot and heavy with now-wife Jenna Dewan. In a March 2006 interview with People, Amanda spilled that shooting her makeout scenes with Channing was extra-awkward when Jenna was on set.
“It was definitely strange,” she admitted. “Channing’s girlfriend was on set the day when we’re on the soccer field and we kiss. And she’s, like, in total direct eyeline. I’m like, ‘Channing, is there any way that your girlfriend could sort of step behind you, so I don’t have to look her dead in the eye?’”
Even if Jenna hadn’t been in the picture, Channing’s not exactly Amanda’s male cup of tea. “I’m never attracted to the gorgeous guy,” she claimed in the same interview. “Jude Law? Yeah, he’s beautiful, but that’s not my type.” (OK, so she didn’t say outright that she’s not attracted to Channing, but she implied it, because the man is objectively gorgeous.)
But the story doesn’t end there: In late March 2006, the rumor mill kicked into overdrive when photos surfaced of Channing and Amanda getting suspiciously close in NYC after She’s the Man had already hit theaters. As cozy as the two appear to be in the paparazzi snaps, Channing and other sources close to him assured the press that it was a “just friends” thing.
Summary: Channing and Amanda never dated in real life; Amanda needs to rethink her taste in men; and we’re mega-jealous that she got to make out with the reigning Sexiest Man Alive — even if Jenna harshed their vibe.
