Rage Against the Machine Bassist Crashes Limp Bizkit’s Award Acceptance
Limp Bizkit took home the Best Rock Video award at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, but Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford wasn’t giving up the spotlight. As the band attempted to accept their award, Tim scaled a 15-foot-high set piece and began to rock back and forth, making the structure shake. Onstage was a big ol’ cluster as Fred Durst attempted to deliver an acceptance speech and stagehands tried to avert disaster.
Even after Limp Bizkit left the stage, Tim stayed on. Stagehands grappled with Tim and the structure as Toni Braxton and 98 Degrees presented the second award, and eventually he and a security worker were led away in handcuffs.
