Peter Billingsley at the 67th Annual Tony Awards on June 9, 2013
By today's Hollywood standards, starring in one of the most beloved holiday films of all time as a child means your destined for a life of court dates and rehab stints. However, Peter Billingsley managed to escape the child star curse, despite remaining in the business.
After A Christmas Story was released in 1983 — and it was far from a box office hit — Peter kept working, shooting guest spots on shows like Who’s the Boss?, Highway to Heaven, and Punky Brewster, and still landing lead movie roles, like the 1987 Cold War drama Russkies, opposite a young Joaquin Phoenix.
Somewhere along the road, however, Peter started to do more behind-the-camera work, and he has yet to look back. Now, the boy who once famously cried out for a Red Ryder BB gun is a successful Hollywood producer, working on box office hits like The Break-Up (with real-life bestie Vince Vaughn), Iron Man, and Four Christmases.
