Pete Wentz: Drugs Led to Ashlee Simpson Divorce

Fall Out Boy guitarist Pete Wentz is finally coming clean. The 33-year-old opened up to Rolling Stone in their latest issue about his struggle with prescription drug addiction, including a relapse right around when he and Ashlee Simpson separated.

Pete says that he’s on the mend since he opened up to doctors about his addictions and went to therapy, and that his son Bronx helped inspire him to get clean.

Pete says he was mainly abusing anti-anxiety pills Xanax and Klonopin, which he says “started with insomnia and anxiety from flying, then it spiraled.”

When Bronx was born in 2008 he cut back a little bit, but when Fall Out Boy went on hiatus in 2009, Pete had a relapse.

When he and Ashlee filed for divorce, he says, “I felt like a loser already.” He says that he’d “gone from being the guy in Fall Out Boy to being the guy who, like, hangs out all day.”

He adds that the public eye on him during the divorce made him pretty paranoid and contributed to the downward spiral: “I thought there were people always listening to me. Like, I had my house searched for bugs.”

“My name and brand were toxic,” he said, “It became a caricature.”

We’re glad he’s feeling better!
