You’ve had them on your Netflix queue all year, and today your favorite television shows are getting the praise they deserve! A total of 46 shows (last year only honored 39) — including Breaking Bad, Orphan Black, Scandal, Orange Is the New Black, and House of Cards — were among the 73rd annual Peabody Awards winners.
Aside from the television shows honored, former NBC News anchor, Tom Brokaw, also received an individual award based on his work in broadcast storytelling.
While the Peabody Awards aren’t one of the main televised awards shows — like the Emmys or Golden Globes — they are considered the “Pulitzer Prize of broadcast television,” and “celebrate TV excellence without the restriction of categories.” Not only does that include shows, but also networks like CBS News and CNN. Pretty fancy, huh?
This year’s winners join fellow Peabody Awards recipients including Girls, Switched at Birth, Game Change, Louie, Doctor Who, and Lorne Michaels (he received a personal award), who all earned an award last year.
We bet Olivia Pope, Walter White, and Piper Chapman are beyond thrilled for their wins, and rightfully so! To see who else received the highly-regarded recognition, visit peabodyawards.com for the full list of winners.
