The Bachelor 2016 finale tonight might not have been much of a surprise — Ben Higgins was pretty much smitten with Lauren Bushnell since day one — but the Bachelorette 2016 announcement is a different story!

EXCLUSIVE: Tenley Gives the Scoop on Ben & Lauren B.!

For months, we had heard Caila Quinn was a shoo-in for the Season 12 lead role. There was her dramatic Fantasy Suite exit, her hot seat time at Women Tell All, and then the 24-year-old was seen filming what appeared to be an intro package in her hometown of Ohio!

But then, on the morning of tonight’s finale, a new spoiler broke that Bachelorette producers had changed their minds last minute. According to the source, Caila got a call late last week saying they were going with JoJo Fletcher instead!

NEWS: Has Ben’s Runner-Up Moved On Already?

So what actually went down on tonight’s After the Final Rose announcement? Well, it looks like the insider intel was right: Dallas beauty JoJo is our official new Bachelorette!

For the first time in franchise history, ABC chose the runner-up as the star — a move they had avoided in the past due to the quick turnaround from the on-screen finale heartbreak to the Bachelorette announcement and filming.

While the 24-year-old may not be as obviously “diverse” in the way the show had teased they were leaning, there’s still a chance the 25-plus male contestants will be more evenly distributed among races and backgrounds. Not to mention, JoJo is half Persian, making her our first Middle Eastern lead!

First, she came out looking totally gorgeous and had an incredibly diplomatic, mature conversation with Ben, saying how she wished the best for him and Lauren Bushnell, calling them both “unbelievable people” and saying she’s “moving forward.”

After it was clear she’d moved on, Chris Harrison revealed the big news, prompting the real estate developer to gush about snagging the gig:

“It’s so weird — it’s crazy! Guys, I am so excited.”

As she said in her breakup, “I just want the kind of love that I can count on. That when someone says they love me they really mean it. That they’re not going anywhere.”

We can’t wait to see what she does with her season of the show! And sorry it didn’t work out, Caila, but there’s always Bachelor in Paradise!

The Bachelorette Season 12 premieres May 2016 on ABC.
