‘Dance Moms’ Star Nia Frazier Talks “Slay” Music Video, “Momager” Mom — Exclusive
Maddie Ziegler, a.k.a. Sia’s muse, isn’t the only bright star to emerge from Dance Moms, because fellow dancer Nia Sioux Frazier is taking the music industry by storm. On the heels of releasing her first song and music video for “Star in Your Own Life,” she’s debuting her second music video today for her follow-up single, “Slay.”
“It’s really exciting,” the 14-year-old told Wetpaint on the blue carpet at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards about the new video. “It’s an urban Malibu Barbie meets Jem [and the Holograms]. There are so many colorful people and it’s all about being true to yourself, pushing those haters aside, and being the best you can be.”
Nia, who walked the carpet with her mother, Holly — whom she compares to a Kris Jenner-like “momager” — said spending so much mother-daughter time is “actually pretty fun,” while Holly just says she’s “trying not to embarrass Nia too much.”
“I’m so proud of her. It’s one of those things that if someone told me a year ago Nia would be coming out with two songs and two videos I would be like, ‘no way,’” Holly told us. “She sends positive messages, she’s a great role model, and that’s the most important thing. She’s developing into a really good, positive person.”
Nia’s new music video for “Slay” premieres during the Dance Moms reunion tonight, August 18, at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime. Check out her YouTube page here.
