Nick Cannon Entourage Impostor Steals Jewelry — Report
Overly trusting Fred Segal employees may be taking some heat this weekend for accidentally giving a stranger jewelry for free.
According to TMZ, a man called the Fred Segal store in Santa Monica claiming to work for Nick Cannon, saying he needed some jewelry right away, presumably for Nick’s wife, Mariah Carey.
Mariah is the diva to end all divas, so it was probably a good angle to take — give me the jewels, no questions asked, or risk the wrath of Mimi.
The man, who called himself Michael, asked the Fred Segal employee to meet him at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood with the jewels.
Unless this woman was also the manager, she probably had to get the OK from someone before putting the jewels in a bag and driving over there, so there's likely more than one person to question here. Maybe she told the supervisor Nick Cannon wants stuff for Mariah, and the manager said "Whatever they want," knowing the real Nick and Mariah could afford it, and Mariah wearing your company's product is a worthy endorsement. Maybe Nick and Mimi are regulars of this place; there must be more to it than just saying "OK, sure!" and running over with precious stones.
Anyway, the employee did go to the hotel and the man who met her at the door was a different guy, dressed as a security guard. He said he'd take the jewels up to Nick's room and return with cash. So she gave up the goods. But he never came back, and now the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.
It's not clear how much jewelry was taken, but it's estimated to be in the several thousand dollar range. Oops.
