Original story (12:26 p.m. ET): Just yesterday, we were hearing buzz that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were in the midst of a separation, with the couple living separately (he in hotels, she at home with their twins, Moroccan and Monroe). Not only that, but reports claimed Mariah’s jealousy had peaked, and she’d even gone as far as hiring security to keep women away from Nick at his Las Vegas pool party gigs. Now, a new source claims these two have actually been separated for months, and divorce is right around the corner. Tears!
According to TMZ insiders, Mimi and her 12 years junior hubby actually split back in May and have been living mostly independent lives since (aside from sharing time with #DemBabies). But for those hoping for a reconciliation, this source says that’s not likely to happen.
The outlet claims divorce lawyers have already been called into action, and they’re quite far into negotiations. Their insider states that a property settlement and custody agreement has been hashed out for months and is just now being finalized. In other words, the source says, the divorce is a “done deal.”
So how did this all happen? Apparently it was Nick’s interview on Big Boy’s radio show in March that really set the split into motion. During the chitchat, the America’s Got Talent host willingly named five celebs he’d slept with, including Kim Kardashian — and Mariah did not take to that well, feeling humiliated over the whole thing.
He didn’t help himself either by talking about his sex life on Howard Stern or “abandoning” Mimi for numerous gigs, when the couple is clearly not hurting for money (we’re talking the best-selling female artist of all time, after all). Plus, these Vegas appearances and DJ stints are keeping him away from the three-year-old twins.
But Nick’s not all to blame, the source explains. The rapper is said to be bothered by Mimi’s so-called “yes men” that she surrounds herself with, and that the songstress won’t listen to him when he “dares to disagree with her.” Their report also states that Mariah has complained about his work ethic, which angers Nick as he maintains that he’s made $75 million for the family in the last three years.
Sounds like a lot of he said-she said, but we’re hoping that somehow, someway, this is all a rumor that’s been blown out of proportion. After all, between the Beyonce and Jay Z split gossip, and the Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin divorce, we’re not sure our hearts can take another upset like this!
What do you think: Are Mariah and Nick headed for divorce or is this all a bunch of phooey? Sound off in the comments below.
