Nick Lachey Spills On “Damn Cute” Son Camden and Whether He’ll Have More Kids — Exclusive

These days, Nick Lachey might be rivaling Ryan Seacrest for the title of “Busiest Man in Hollywood.” The former boy bander closed out 2013 with a nationwide tour (the “Package Tour” with 98 Degrees, New Kids on the Block, and Boyz II Men) and a hosting gig on NBC’s The Sing Off under his belt. And now Nick can add morning talk show host to his resume, as today (March 3) kicked off his run on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live.

Wetpaint Entertainment was able to chat exclusively with the new father — he and wife Vanessa welcomed a son, Camden, in September 2012 — about moving the family to NYC for the gig, his favorite part of fatherhood so far, and whether the couple plans on more kids down the road!

Wetpaint Entertainment: Congrats on the new gig on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live! Did you always want to do a talk show?

Nick Lachey: It’s definitely something I’ve gotten more interested in in the past few years, having guest hosted on Live With Kelly! a bunch of times, and a few times with Hoda Kotb on TODAY. When this opportunity came up, I just thought, “Why the heck not?” It’s a great opportunity to be part of a great network like VH1, and to be a part of a show that’s got a great sensibility about music, with live performances every day. It just felt like the right fit.

Are you excited about the move to NYC? What does Vanessa think of living in the city?

We’ve lived here together in the past, but we’re excited about coming back because we’re doing it with a kid now. It’s just a whole different experience than it was when we were young and just dating. We’re looking at it as an adventure, to all move together to New York and experience it as a family.

Speaking of family, what has surprised you the most about being a father so far?

It’s just so rewarding in every possible way, just the love that you get from your own flesh and blood. Every day is a new high, a new experience, a new thing that makes you smile. It’s easily the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of in my life.

Do you see yourself in Camden, or do you see more of Vanessa?

People say that he looks like me, but I definitely see more of her everyday — which is probably a good thing. I do think he’s a nice balance of both of us, but I’m also horrible at the “He’s got your lips, he’s got your nose” game. I can’t tell. But he’s a damn cute kid, a great kid.

Any particularly special moments so far with him that stand out for you?

We just had his first haircut about a week and a half ago, and that was a little traumatic for us. We tried to let his hair grow, and he looked so cute with it long, but it just got to the point where it was in his mouth. So we decided it was time to go ahead and cut it off. Now he actually looks like a little boy!

Do you think down the line, you and Vanessa would consider giving Camden a little brother or sister?

Oh for sure. We definitely want him to have siblings. At some point that will definitely come into play, no question.

Catch Nick Lachey on Big Morning Buzz Live every day at 10 a.m. ET on VH1.
