Here’s How Nicki Minaj Keeps Her Cool and Why She’ll Never Have a “Nervous Breakdown”
After working in the music industry for upwards of a decade, you'd think Nicki Minaj would've had a total mental breakdown by now. Cough cough, Britney Spears, cough cough.
However, the femcee has somehow been able to keep her calm in the public eye despite haters coming for her, and is revealing just how she's managed to stay so cool and collected with everything that's been going on.
As Wetpaint reported, Nicki is the cover star of PAPER magazine's annual Break the Internet issue — the controversial "Minaj a trois" cover photo alone has raised some eyebrows.
But inside the spread (sorry, wrong word choice), the 34-year-old gets candid about her career, her new album, her Barbies, and, yes, how she keeps her cool.
"Oh, I keep my cool because I'm a believer and I always get the last laugh. That's been the theme of my life," she tells the magazine.
"You can usually bet your bottom dollar that anytime you see something on the Internet going on with me, no matter how it looks, I'm usually behind the scenes laughing."
Hm... could the Queens gal be hinting at her recent reported feuds with Remy Ma and Cardi B., perhaps?!
"Because I have a strong relationship with God. I've watched Him work miracle after miracle in my life. I've watched Him shut down every person who's ever come up against me, and so it's comical at this point... My closest friends and team members and family — we put it in God's hands and leave it there."
In addition to the big guy upstairs, the "Superbass" singer also credits her fans for keeping her grounded.
"I have a loyal fan base who never leaves," she says of her Barbz.
"And all they do is motivate me and believe in me and fight for me. So anything that even seems negative has only made me even more of a magical unicorn. I feel this year I have never been stronger, I have all my super powers back. I've never felt this powerful, as a woman, as an emcee — I've never felt this invincible."
Nicki, real name Onika, also says haters shouldn't ever expect to see her have a "nervous breakdown," thanks in part to the supportive people with which she surrounds herself.
"You're gonna continue to see me queening at Paris Fashion Week and having fun with my best friends. All my girlfriends have been in my life for over twenty years," she adds.
"I don't have a circle of people around me of 'yes-men' or fakeness — I have my real friends that have been in my life since elementary school, junior high school, high school. It keeps me grounded and it keeps me genuinely happy, and when you really truly feel grateful every day, then you become really invincible."
Though Drake's ex doesn't address her recent drama head-on — like her brother's rape case, her ongoing feud with Mariah Carey, etc — she does admit that she purposely doesn't talk negatively about other people because it won't get her anywhere in life.
"I feel like when you love your life, you don't have to hit below the belt. Just keep it moving. I believe in my talent, I know who I am...And when you have that knowledge, you just have to kind of sit back and wait for the rest of the world to catch up."
If only this gal's confidence was contagious!
