Let’s hope Nicki Minaj has as many lawyers as she does wigs. As of February 21, a hair stylist is suing the famously stylish starlet, reports CNN.
Terrence Davidson filed suit for $30 million earlier today in Atlanta, claiming Nicki stole his wig designs and cost him the chance at his own reality show.
The stylist, who has also worked for artists including Patti LaBelle and rapper Remy Ma, began working for Nicki in January 2010, right at the beginning of Nicki’s rise to stardom. Terrence designed wigs for her various public appearances and he says they were in talks about launching their own wig line and reality show.
Specifically, Terrence and his attorney, Christopher Chestnut, take issue with Nicki selling wigs on her website that are modeled after the originals Terrence created, including the “Pink Upper Bun,” the “Half Blonde-Half Pink Wig,” and the “Fox Fur Wig.”
“I see those wigs online,” he told CNN. “People are basically duplicating what I created for Nicki Minaj.”
Translated into legalese, Terrence’s attorney says, “Nicki Minaj is reaping great success and financial bounty reward for Terrence’s creative expertise, and he is entitled to participate in that. Someone’s got to stand up for the artist. We applaud the fact that she’s making millions, but she’s also got to pay bounty to those whose creative designs she's making millions off of.”
Nicki and her team had yet to reply to CNN’s request for comment as of publishing. We’ll let you know if there’s hide or hair of them.
