Nicki Minaj sure piqued our curiosity about her new single, "Pills N Potions," when she spoke of it at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 18 — and now the track has finally arrived.
"It sounds like urgency," the 31-year-old hip hop star told Billboard at the time. "It sounds like betrayal. It sounds like running. It sounds like fainting. It sounds like love. It sounds like… [gasps]"
Sure enough, the lyrics seem to speak to Nicki, or at least her music alter-ego, feeling burned by a lover:
They could never make me hate you
Even though what you was doin' wasn't tasteful
Even though you out here lookin' so ungrateful
I'mma keep it movin', be classy and graceful
I told 'em it's no friends in the game — you ain't learned that yet
All the bridges you came over — don't burn that yet
The song is the lead single off Nicki's forthcoming third studio album, The Pink Print — which she tweets hits very close to home: "It's a true story. The entire album is a true f—king story."
"It's my fave," she continues. "It's so special. It's everything. It's my heart 'n' soul."
