Nigel Lythgoe Fired From American Idol Over Simon Fuller Feud?
Word had already come down that longtime American Idol executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick were axed, but now the reason behind the firings has allegedly come to the surface. According to a new report, Nigel was fired due to tensions with American Idol creator Simon Fuller.
A source reportedly told FOX411’s Pop Tarts, “Both Nigel and Simon really clashed. Ken and Nigel’s exit isn’t surprising...it’s hard for anyone involved in the production to get along with Fuller.”
Nigel will continue to produce FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance, which is still hugely popular in the U.S. despite being canceled in the U.K. after only two seasons.
Nigel and Ken’s departures were reportedly an “‘inevitable’ development,” but due to the simultaneous departure of programming director Mike Darnell, all hirings – onscreen and otherwise – appear to be stalled.
As we reported yesterday, even though the deal that puts Jennifer Hudson at the judges table for season 13 had already been negotiated, these latest developments have put it on hold, and the contract has yet to be executed. And the rumors of a possible addition of people like Kelly Clarkson and/or Adam Lambert still appear to be one giant question mark.
Who would you like to see at the American Idol judges table in 2014?
