Scene and Heard:
When Owen is doing what he does best… running away! But first, he conspicuously flirts with a swimsuit-clad Nikita. He calls her a hero then hands her the black box he’s been “guarding.” Nikita then pulls out a gun (what else does she pack in that gym bag?!) and shoots the black box to smithereens. So romantic! We almost expected them to kiss, almost, and then we remembered… no one on Nikita gets any action except when they’re having a stomach liquefier antidote pill stealthily picked from their pocket.
Instead, the characters get emo songs and sad goodbyes pretty much EVERY SINGLE TIME. This week’s emo song, “Little Wars” was from Arrica Rose and the…’s. (We’re guessing the dot, dot, dots are her back up band.) And the lyrics were, as always, fitting to the degree that one could imagine Owen and Nikita actually singing them to each other. (Given Owen killed Nikki’s fiancé and Owen possibly holds Nikki responsible for his gf being gunned down…) Appropriate!
I am what I am and you are what you are
I am what I am and you are what you are
And we’re so much more than our little wars.
You make me feel like I’ve got potential
You make me feel like I’ve got potential, oh baby and
You make me feel like I might be special
You make me feel like I might be special, oh baby but
It’s almost as if Arrica Rose was channeling the doomed love between Nikki and Owen when she wrote it. So who is she and how does she know so much about heartache and making music that makes us cry? The answer can be found on her intricate and arty web site.
Unsurprisingly, she’s been making music all her life, but wound up studying film at USC (just like Jim Morrison!) where she began scoring short films and decided making music was what she liked most. Now she’s created a whole lot of music, some of it solo and some of it with the three dots. They are currently rounding the bend on their third album! Woo hoo!
Arrica Rose is also the founder and director of I HEART (www.iheartinc.com), an artist operated non-profit that raises money for charitable programs and organizations via creative projects and events. I HEART has had an amazing team of supporters including Willie Nelson, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jackson Browne, Bird & The Bee, Martin Guitars, Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios, and many more!
