It ain’t easy being a rogue spy.

Entertainment Weekly hit the Nikita panel New York Comic-Con on October 16, and Shane West (Michael) and producer Albert Kim teased some impending bumps on the Michael and Nikita (Maggie Q) romance road.

Shane explained, “There  has to be conflict. If [Michael and Nikita] are together all of a sudden, there has to be conflict. There will be a rift — I don’t know how many — in Season 2. I don’t know how long it’ll last, but there has to be a rift that is drawn to pull them apart a little bit so when they’re brought back together it’s even more powerful and emotional.”

Kim added, “We wanted to figure out a way where an adult problem came up, they both had to deal with it, they both still love each other, they both still want to be together, but circumstances have forced them apart.”

While Michael and Nikita will endure a split (or two), Nikita and Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) will eventually come back together. “We want [Nikita and Alex] to start converging,” dished Kim. “We want to feel be able to feel that they’re on a collision course.”

We’ll take solace in the fact that Mikita is happy... for now.
