Full Name: Maggie Q (Formerly “Maggie Denise Quigley”) Hometown: Honolulu, Hawaii Born: May 22, 1979
Maggie Denise Quigley was born to a Polish-Irish American father and a Vietnamese mother. Her parents met during the Vietnam War and moved to Hawaii where Maggie grew up.
Unlike the uncool majority of us who simply went to college after high school, Maggie went to Japan where she started modeling, then to Hong Kong where she began acting. Among her first film appearances were the lead roles in the Hong Kong action thrillers Gen-Y Cops and Naked Weapon, in which she played a martial artist assassin. As her acting career took off, she changed her name to Maggie Q for easier pronunciation by Chinese audiences. (Also Q sounds a lot more like an action star name than “Quigley.”)
Eventually, she came to Hollywood, starring alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible III and Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard. Maggie is also a vegan (we could have 1% body fat if we were vegans, too, Maggie, so quit rubbing it in!) and was PETA Asia-Pacific's 2007 Person of the Year.
