Nina Dobrev Bids ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Farewell at 2015 Teen Choice Awards (VIDEO)
Put a stake in us, we’re done. After grappling with Nina Dobrev’s departure from The Vampire Diaries all summer we were forced to relive the pain during last night’s 2015 Teen Choice Awards. Her acceptance speech for winning Choice TV Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy only cemented the fact that Elena Gilbert is gone that much more.
Nina walked up to the stage to accept her surfboard and surprised everyone by wearing fake fangs that made her mumble her first few words. Then the 26-year-old actress spit them out and said, “That’s right, I don’t need these anymore.” The crowd let out a weird mix of sounds, but “aww” was the most overwhelming.
"The last few months have been a pretty big change for me," Nina continued. "Change...it's a scary word, or at least I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown. But change is necessary — necessary for you to grow and to learn and to better yourself."
Nina later thanked those who helped her get to where she is today like TVD creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, as well as the many fans she’s amassed over the last six years playing our favorite Mystic Falls heroine. She called her time on TVD “incredible” and acknowledged she’s ready to see what else is out there for her. Nina later told press, according to Us Weekly, that she has projects coming up but “can’t talk about” them yet.
"As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart and I smile. Because just like my character Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up," Nina said holding back emotions. "We've grown up, and over the last six years we've become women."
While Nina may be gone from TVD (for now), that doesn’t mean we can’t follow her career moving forward.
“So thank you guys — each and every single one of you," Nina concluded. "I love you, and thank you for coming along with me on this amazing journey. Change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride. It's gonna be fun."
The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premieres Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
