Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev took advantage of her Georgia lifestyle and watched some movies at the 16th annual Savannah Film Festival recently, but before she kicked back and watched some flicks, she opened up about her life growing up and how she’s making an impact on future generations.

As superfans know, Nina was born Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva in Bulgaria — but she and her family moved to Canada when she was 2. Given this string of moving around, Nina is fluent in English, French, and Bulgarian. Boom, triple threat!

And though she’s had roles in Degrassi: The Next Generation, Perks of Being a Wallflower, and The Vampire Diaries, she considers her biggest challenge having to play both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on the supernatural series. “It’s been a work in progress, done step by step, little by little,” Nina said (via SavannahNow).

But Nina is also interested in helping future generations of actors learn the craft. “[Candice Accola and I are] going to be sitting in on a performing arts class and talking to students,” Nina said of her upcoming Savannah College of Art and Design visit. “We can tell them our experiences and give them some advice about their plans for the future.”

Luckily, this won’t be Nina’s first time talking to youngins. “I went back to my old performing arts high school and talked to the students there and I’ve done panels for the films I’ve done and question-and-answer sessions after screenings.”

As for Nina’s characters on The Vampire Diaries, the actress said she’s had a joy getting to play them over the past five seasons. “It’s all been really exciting and really great,” Nina said. “Now with the show, I’ve gotten to watch my characters evolve over the five years I’ve played them. Katherine especially is so unlike me. She’s bitchy, mean and selfish, and it’s interesting to figure out why someone would act like that. I’ve learned a lot about myself through these characters.”
