Nina Dobrev may play the near-invincible vampire Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, but in real life, she’s far more vulnerable. Did you know the actress lost feeling in her thumb after getting bitten by a monkey? Check out the video of Nina telling the whole story to pal Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

“Yeah, I actually did get bit by a monkey. That’s a fact,” Nina told Jimmy, after the host broke out photos of Nina’s brush with a monkey in Bali. In the first pic, you can see Nina reaching her arm out to the monkey in question. The second photo shows Nina’s bandaged arm after the attack. She explained further: “And so, now, I have no feeling in my thumb. Well, now, I can move it obviously, but it’s a nerve. It bit on a nerve, and now I can’t feel anything.”

Nina’s not exaggerating. She had Jimmy caress her thumb while she turned away, and she couldn’t even tell he was doing it. Yikes!

The 25-year-old actress doesn’t seem too broken up about the loss of feeling in her thumb, laughing about all of the vampire-themed jokes she got following the event. Apparently, this sort of thing happens to her all of the time: “There’s a joke with all my friends. I’m the klutziest person on the planet. Anything bad that could potentially happen, always does.” We don’t think Nina is as klutzy as she claims, but a monkey bite does give her some serious bad luck cred.
