Nina Dobrev’s New Film The Final Girls — Everything You Need to Know

Nina Dobrev is using her Vampire Diaries filming hiatus to film a horror comedy called The Final Girls — and we couldn’t be more excited to see this film! In the meantime, here is everything you need to know about The Final Girls!

It stars Malin Akerman and Taissa Farmiga

Unfortunately, Nina is not playing a starring role in the film — but there are two other kickass actresses who are. Malin Akerman, who starred in Watchmen and 27 Dresses, and Taissa Farmiga, best known for her roles as Violet and Zoe in American Horror Story. These are the film’s leading ladies.

It’s a meta movie about a girl transported back into an 80s horror film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the meta movie...centers on a girl who, along with her friends, is mysteriously transported into the world of an iconic ’80s horror flick, which starred her recently deceased mother (Akerman), a famous scream queen. The group must try to survive the movie and defeat its crazed killer.” Given that she’s not the star, we’re kind of worried about Nina’s chances of survival.

It co-stars Thomas Middleditch

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been gobbling up every episode of HBO’s new sitcom, Silicon Valley. If so, you’ll recognize Thomas Middleditch as the show’s shy guy programmer Richard Hendricks. In The Final Girls, Thomas will play “a film geek for whom landing in a classic horror flick is a dream come true, until it turns into a nightmare.” Yikes!

Nina stars as the “alpha ex-best friend”

Nina will play “the alpha ex-best friend.” This drops her odds of survival even further, right?

It is directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson

The Final Girls is being directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, and it will mark his first foray into feature film — though he still has an expansive resume. He has directed many a TV movie and episode, including three episodes of the superb British comedy The Inbetweeners.

It’s a cross between Back to the Future and Friday the 13th

According to producer Michael London, The Final Girls is "the unlikely child of Back to the Future and Friday the 13th.” Sign us up!

It’s filming in Louisiana

Filming began on The Final Girls a few weeks ago in Louisiana — and Nina seems to be having a superb time hanging with her co-stars and enjoying welcome baskets.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
