For most recording artists, a concert tour is one of the most lucrative parts of the job — especially when ticket prices soar into the quadruple-digits!
But to hear Miley Cyrus tell it in her latest interview with Elle, she's raking in nothing on her Bangerz tour. And it's not because the tour isn't popular! Apparently the 21-year-old is pouring so much money into making the six-month stint awesome that she's not even making a profit.
Miley made the startling admission when Elle's Tavi Gevinson asked about her ability to give the same strong, emotional performance night after night.
"Sometimes when I'm in the studio, I feel so much but don’t know how to express it. You’re just in, like, a cave — life goes on without you," she says, adding she was so focused on recording Bangerz that she lost friends by the time it was finished.
"On tour, I'm obsessed, because it's such an investment," she continues. "Honestly, like, I'm not making any money on this tour — I put all the money into the tour. My managers all think I'm bats—t crazy, but I think it's good for me in the long run. … Most of my fans are young; they pay for their own tickets and work really hard to be able to come, and so I want to give all of them the best show — the same show in Mississippi as I do in L.A."
Well, consider us impressed — not just with her work ethic but with her showmanship. You go on with yo' bad self, Cyrus!
