Justin Timberlake and ‘N Sync to Reunite at the 2013 VMAs — Confirmed!
UPDATE: It's official. Us Weekly confirms that 'N Sync will be reuniting for the VMAs. The site adds the caveat that this information is current "as of press time," so we guess things could still change before Sunday. But as of now, JT and all his former bandmates are expected to show up an perform a short set that will include some of the group's greatest hits.
UPDATE: MTV sources tell Us Weekly that producers are "trying to make it happen" and that the reunion is "coming together." At the same time, 'N Sync bandmate Lance Bass tried to quiet the rumors on his SiriusXM show saying, "Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we're going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly." Notice Lance never denied the claims.
Sit down, take your retainer out, and find the nearest pillow to scream into, because your inner 12-year-old girl is about to lose her everloving mind.
‘N Sync is reuniting at the 2013 VMAs on Sunday and their dulcet tones are going to blow all the cool right out of Brooklyn. It’s going to be so awesomely late ‘90s, girls will be wearing butterfly clips and platform shoes in a totally unironic fashion.
According to Page Six, VMA staple Justin Timberlake, who is nominated for six awards this year, and is the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, will be joined onstage by former band members Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez for a reunion performance.
While any sane person would be pumped just to hear a few bars of epic jams like “I Thought She Knew” or “Bye Bye Bye” performed by the former boy banders, we hope the guys really go all out for their first reunion since their 2002 hiatus.
Just a few creative suggestions for making their big comeback the standout event it deserves to be: bring back Justin’s ramen noodle hair, wear the matching pajamas from the “I Drive Myself Crazy” video, and finally figure out a way to finance Lance’s trip to space.
Probably one of their most iconic videos, “Bye Bye Bye” featured the boys hanging from puppet strings before breaking into epic dance moves that would later be replicated at every middle school dance in the good ol' USofA.
God, we loved the days of JC Chavez’s long, highlighted hair and soul patch. Add in his laceup leather pants and you’ll have us saying Justin who? But Justin was wearing a short-sleeved leather button up shirt, so that’s also awesome. Naturally, they put Chris Kirkpatrick in the back as the group’s DJ. Sigh.
3. “It’s Gonna Be Me”
‘N Sync Barbie dolls all vying for the affection of one brunette? Music video gold!
4. “I Want You Back”
For this gem, we take a trip into outer space where the boys are trying to get their collective lady back. No news yet on whether said lady was, in fact, an alien. Justin’s tiny hip shake is enough to make us melt, and if you add in those baggy satin jackets, you’ve successfully recreated our preteen years.
5. “This I Promise You”
Turtlenecks. In the forest. Singing water droplets. ‘Nuff said.
Bonus Clip: “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”
Nothing brings in the Christmas season quite like Chris Kirkpatrick’s blonde and black dreadlocks.
