Which Actress Was Too Busy On Her Phone to Notice President Obama?
We’ve all been there: You’re on your phone, tapping away, so caught up in that email, that text, that status, that tweet that you totally don’t notice a friend standing thisclose to you. It’s an honest mistake. But what about being so digitally distracted you ignore the President of the United States?
That’s exactly what happened to former Daily Show correspondent Olivia Munn. The actress, who currently stars as Sloan Sabbith on The Newsroom, was in D.C. for the 2010 Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear organized by Comedy Central mainstays, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
While in the country’s capital, Olivia met up with friend Reggie Love, who then worked as President Obama’s personal aide. Reggie had to stop by his office at the White House and brought Olivia along.
“I’m standing in this door frame and I’m on my cell phone, really immersed in this email, and I look up and I go, ‘Wait. Is this the Oval Office? Are we in the Oval Office?’ and he’s like, ‘Yeah,’” she recalls. Stunned by her location but with work still on her mind, Olivia returns to her phone.
“Then, all of a sudden out of nowhere, I see this figure come around this corner from inside the Oval Office … and it’s Barack Obama, the President of the United States of America,” she continues. “And I pull one of these moves where I’m typing and I look up and I go…” Here Olivia demonstrates the classic vacant gaze, “I’m too cool for you” head nod and half-smile. Then, she realizes just whom she blew off.
