Olivia Wilde’s First Mother’s Day: “We Were Sweating, Angry, and Hungry”

Olivia Wilde is a pretty new mom, so it’s understandable that not all the perks of motherhood haven’t quite kicked in yet. Including having a pleasant Mother’s Day, because this year, the 30-year-old mom’s poor planning turned the whole thing into a disaster.

Olivia’s new son, Otis Alexander, is barely two months old, but Olivia was all set to celebrate her very first Mother’s Day with him and her fiance, Jason Sudeikis. Unfortunately, though, just about everything went wrong.

“I wanted to have brunch. I wanted to go to Central Park,” Olivia explained when she stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman on June 17. “I had this image of Central Park being completely empty, just rolling meadows, one person a mile away flying a kite, some balloons.”

We could’ve told Olivia that Central Park has never looked like that, but at the time, she was dreaming big.

“So we go up there and it’s hell. It’s more packed. Everyone in the world is in Central Park that day,” she said. “There were a billion people there and there’s one bathroom, as far as I can tell. Maybe there were more. I couldn’t find it. It was a bad decision on my part.”

And even though she ended up “sweating, angry, and hungry,” as she dropped to the ground to change an explosive diaper right there in the dirt, all in all, Olivia was glad to have spent the day with her new baby.

The good news? There are tons more Mother’s Days to come. Better luck next year!
