In case you missed the moment when the internet imploded upon itself because Olivia Wilde’s breastfeeding photo for Glamour went viral, here’s an update.
The 30-year-old new mom was all dolled up in a Roberto Cavalli gown as she fed her 5-month-old. While it was a beautiful moment between mother and son, little Otis didn’t seem to grasp the gravity of it. Instead, he answered nature’s call and pulled a North West by peeing on mom.
“Otis ordered milkshakes. Luckily I had some on me. Then he peed on my dress,” Olivia tweeted on August 5. “Good kid. #Boobfood #WhenNatureCalls.”
The Her actress then followed up with, “Thanks [Glamour] for knowing there’s nothing indecent about feeding a hungry baby.” Preach, mama!
In the cover story, Olivia went on to praise breastfeeding by expressing how natural it is for a mother. “Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being a part of that,” Olivia said to the magazine.
“Breastfeeding is the most natural thing … it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing — that we know we can be.”
She went on to add, “You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed … I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breastfeeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.”
We love that Olivia is speaking out about breastfeeding, especially since the “Free the Nipple” campaign — a movement aimed to legalize women going topless and breastfeeding in public — is garnering a lot of attention.
Plus Olivia isn’t the only one spreading the word! Just this week, singer Alanis Morissette showed her support with a photo of herself feeding son Ever. Prior to that, Gwen Stefani and Jaime King also took to social media to post images of themselves breastfeeding.
