Turns out that wasn’t a volleyball tucked up under Misty May-Treanor’s shirt. The Olympic athlete just gave birth to her first child!
The 36-year-old and her husband, recently retired MLB catcher Matt Treanor, welcomed a daughter on June 3. She announced the happy news on Facebook along with a first photo of the tiny tot.
“Baby Malia in Daddy's arms. We were so blessed to welcome this little lady into the world June 3. The staff at the hospital and doctors we can’t thank you enough. Let the adventures begin!!!!!” the new mom captioned the photo of a sweetly sleeping Malia.
The new mom also took to Twitter where she told followers, “Wish I could sleep like our baby girl. Motherhood is the best!!! Everyday a learning experience. #NewMom.”
The world-class athlete retired from professional volleyball after winning three consecutive Olympic gold medals alongside her longtime partner, Kerri Walsh Jennings. Misty’s rep confirmed she was expecting a child in February with the mom-to-be, telling People at the time, “We have been wanting to start our family and feel blessed to finally have this little miracle happen.”
