‘Once Upon a Time’ Casts Wes Brown as Gaston
Once Upon a Time has had Belle around since Season 1 — and her reimagined Beast has been causing trouble in Storybrooke since day one.
But it’s taken five seasons to return to the princess’s original meathead suitor, Gaston. The hunter will be played by True Blood alum Wes Brown in an upcoming episode.
The new character, described as “dangerous” by Variety, will appear in a flashback to Belle’s life before she ever met Rumpelstiltskin. It will further explore OUAT’s “twist on Gaston’s role in the Beauty & the Beast tale.”
Considering the plethora of twists the ABC drama has already put on Disney’s classics, Wes’s Gaston could end up being anything. Maybe the expected villain could prove to be a great guy — ignoring that “dangerous” comment — or, at this point, another member of Emma Swan’s extended family.
The character of Gaston has actually appeared on OUAT before, in Belle’s introductory episode, “Skin Deep,” back in Season 1.
Although, any super-fan could’ve easily forgotten since “Sir Gaston” only popped up in that single showing and was played by Psych’s Sage Brocklebank.
The new version of the mega-vain admirer will star in at least one upcoming episode, which will bow during the back-half of the season.
Once Upon a Time's midseason premiere airs Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
