‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5 Will Feature LGBT Relationship
Once Upon a Time has had some pretty out of the box romantic pairings — Dark One and Disney princess, pirate and sheriff, outlaw and queen.
But for its upcoming Season 5, the series will do something so normal it’s shocking they haven’t done it before — feature an LGBT couple.
With Mulan returning to the OUAT world, it seems like her story would fit best with a same-sex romance. The warrior princess, played by Jamie Chung, 32, does already have feelings for fellow royal lady, Aurora.
However, it hasn’t been confirmed if Mulan and Aurora will be the show's gay couple because the ABC fairytale drama’s bosses, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, are trying to keep some mystery around the new plot-line.
“We want the show to reflect the world as it is now,” said Adam to Entertainment Weekly. “Whether that’s going to be with any particular character, we’re not going to say.”
It seems like Storybrooke’s biggest fans also had a hand in the timely development.
“We know that [LGBT] community have been big supporters of the show,” Edward said. "We would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that.”
Once Upon a Time Season 5 premieres Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m ET on ABC.
