Over seven million Oncers tuned in to watch Hook, Rumple, Regina and the Charmings set sail to Neverland in search of Henry in the Once Upon a Time Season 2 finale (“And Straight on ‘Til Morning”). But was it enough to pull OUAT out of its sophomore ratings slump? Well, to put it bluntly, no.

Ratings for Season 2 of ABC’s fairy tale drama haven’t been up to par with its magical Season 1, but they haven’t been too terrible to cause alarm for the network. After all, ABC recently renewed the series for a Season 3 — and picked up its spin-off, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Sunday night’s finale drew 7.3 million viewers, resulting in a 2.2 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo. While 2.2 isn’t bad, it’s nothing compared to the show’s Season 1 ratings. At its peak, Once Upon a Time achieved a staggering 3.9 in its demo.

However, with Season 3 on the horizon, we have no doubt that the ratings will pick up when the Charmings & Co. find themselves in Neverland. It’s a whole new world of possibility for the show, and as long as they stay focused on the core cast members and slow down the pace a bit, OUAT should return to its former ratings glory in no time.
