Make no mistake about Once Upon a Time: despite its whimsical approach to storytelling, at its core, it's a love story. Whether it's familial love or True Love, every character on the hit ABC series — fairy tale or not — is longing for love.
Recently, we wrote about how OUAT needs to add a gay love story, and it sparked quite the debate among Oncers. So Wetpaint Entertainment decided to ask Once Upon a Time co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis about it at the 2013 ATX Television Festival. Will OUAT introduce an LGBT couple anytime soon? Here's what they had to say:
“We are absolutely open to it," Eddy said. "For us, it is a matter of the right time and the right story, and it’s something we discuss. It’s something we’re very open to.”
Adam added: “The same as with any love story, we’d have to do it right and give it its due.”
We're glad Adam and Eddy are so open to the idea of introducing a gay love story on Once Upon a Time, but we agree that it can't be rushed. The series is known for turning classic fairy tales on their heads — it's one of the reasons we love it so much! — so why not introduce a gay character in Season 3? Or why not explore a relationship between two same-gender characters we've already met? Regardless of where Adam and Eddy take us in Season 3, we're happy to know that the idea of a gay romance on OUAT isn't so far-fetched.
What do you think, Once Upon a Time fans: Do you think the show should introduce a gay couple? Sound off in the comments!
