On the Once Upon a Time Season 2 finale, Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) joined forces with the Charmings, Emma, Regina, and even Hook to rescue Henry. What's his mindset like heading into this journey? Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis recently spoke with the Examiner about what we can expect from Rumple in Season 3.

It sounds like we can expect to see Rumple tap into his dark side in his attempt to rescue Henry. "Rumple ... he’s going to go dark for this, which is why he didn’t want Belle to see what he was about to do,"  Edward Kitsis explained.

Edward said something similar to TV Guide, explaining that every member of the group will have to channel their "core character" to rescue Henry: "Snow needs to be Bandit Snow ... Emma is going to need to be the savior. Rumplestiltskin is going to have to be the dark one."

Edward also told the Examiner that Rumple "believes he is going off to his death," which should be interesting. According to Edward, Rumple has decided to "do the right thing" by rescuing Henry, but he still believes in the prophecy about Henry being his undoing.

It sounds to us like we'll be seeing a Rumple who thinks he has nothing left to lose (after all, he's under the impression Nealfire is dead), and is willing to do anything to get Henry back.
