On Once Upon a Time, many characters are mysterious, but we delve into their past in snippets, learning more and more each time. When it comes to Emma Swan, we only know that she was abandoned by her parents (The Charmings) and became the savior in order to bring magic back to Storybrooke. Oh, and she also had a life of crime, spent some time in jail, and had a baby out of wedlock with Nealfire.
We’ve explored most of those angles over the past two seasons, but it’s been awhile since we saw her life on the run. In the first episode, we saw her most recent job pre-Storybrooke: a bail bondsperson who basically was a non-killing bounty hunter, but her life of crime has been buried since Season 2, Episode 6: “Tallahassee.”
Good news, Emma fans — we’ll be seeing more of who she used to be in Season 3. Co-creator Adam Horowitz revealed to Examiner that they “certainly intend to dig deeper into who she is now and who she was back then.”
Fellow co-creator Eddy Kitsis agreed, explaining that he loved “Tallahassee” — even calling it one of his favorite episodes — because we got to see her before she ever went to jail and met Neal. “I think this year we are going to do a few more Emma flashbacks, so we can really get to see more of what made her tick,” he dished.
As for present-day Emma? We’ll see her figuring out what it means to be the savior and trying to find her own happy ending. Plus, since she’s stuck on the Jolly Roger with Hook (plus a few of her enemies and her family), we’re in for one wild ride.
