It's easy to forget in today's world of bazillion dollar cable TV shows (looking at you, Game of Thrones), but even a few years ago, it would have been crazy to think of a network TV program with special effects as good as Once Upon a Time's. Yes, sure, the green screening of Tiny left something to be desired, and the less said about wooden August the better, but in general, OUAT's fantastical world comes to life quite well. How much money does it take to make the magic real?
In an interview with Kermode and Mayo's Film Review today (June 21), Robert Carlyle (Rumplestiltskin) discussed how exciting it is to work on a show with such an epic scale and big budget.
According to Robert, "I think each individual episode is between four and five million dollars an episode." Whoa! Really? We guess magic does come with a price.
"You could make two or three movies back here [in Scotland] for that," Robert noted. "So the production values are so high, and all the post-production and the special effect and etc, etc. It's as big as any movie. It's as good as any movie."
